Not liking the country he came back and during the fall of '73 purchased the farm 1 1/2 miles southwest of Milford, which was their home for 42 years. Being an early settler he saw many hardships, living in log cabins and clearing the land. He was initiated in the Odd Fellows lodge, August 31, 1867. He was a strong believer in his lodge and was ever ready to attend all meetings as long as his health permitted. His health begain to decline about a year ago and he gradually grew weaker each day. About 4 weeks ago he became bedfast with lagrippe; he rallied and was able to sit up, but on Wednesday, December 27th he grew worse and Thursday afternoon the grim monster, Death, overtook him. Sometime ago he made the remark to his grandson, Warren Davis, that he would eat Christmas dinner here but would not be with them much longer. He leaves to mourn their loss, a devoted wife; two sons, William A. of Milford and Oliver of Sheldon; one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Wood of Milford; seven grandchildren, Warren Davis, Daisy Kivell, Stanley Reeves, Gladys and Paul Wood, Dessie and Nathan Reeves; three brothers, James of Lafayette, Indiana; Jarvis and William of Milford; four sisters, Malinda Stover of Lafayette, Indiana, Nancy Silvers of Zillah Washington, Rebecca Harness and Pheba Pancake of Milford; besides a host of other relatives and friends.
