Notes for William Henry Silvers
When seventeen years old, William enlisted in Co. G, Fortieth Indiana Regiment, served three years, one month and ten days in the Union Army. He was wounded in the battle of Chattanooga. At the close of the war he farmed in Indiana for three years and then followed the same line of work in Iroquois Co., Illinois for eighteen years. Following the westward trend, he moved to Boone County, Nebraska near Akron, where he remained for eighteen years having taken up a homestead claim. In 1902 he and his family came to Yakima County, Washington, where he bought 18 acres of land, three miles west of Zillah.
