W.F. Reeves Killed by Explosion on Highway Job
Funeral services were held Friday, May 19, at 2 p.m. in Ladoga, IN, for William F. Reeves, Milford, who died May 16, at 9:15 am in Crawfordsville, IN as result of injuries received in an explosion. Mr. Reeves was born Nov. 17, 1882, five miles southwest of Milford, a son of Jarvis and Ellen Harness Reeves. His childhood was spent on a farm near Milford. He was employed on the railroad in 1916. In 1932, he moved to Ladoga, IN where he was engaged in farming. He formerly resided in Danville. At the time of his death, Mr. Reeves was employed with a state highway maintenance crew at Crawfordsville, IN. He was operating a tar furnace in preparation for the tarring of cracks in the pavement. He lowered a lantern into the furnace to determine the quantity being heated and the flame ignited the flames from the tar, causing the furnace to explode. The concussion badly mangled the body and covered him with hot substance. He was removed to the hospital, but died shortly afterwards. Surviving are his wife, a stepson of Ladoga, IN; three brothers and one sister. Burial was made in Ladoga, IN.
